“Louis” is a standing elephant slip-cast, ceramic sculpture.with metal coating. Approximately 12”x 8”x 6”.

Each elephant is carefully slip-cast and handworked by Tony Furtado. After an initial firing, the tusks are finished with a crackle glaze or a matte finish. Then the piece is coated with a special non-fired gypsum-polymer-acrylic mixture that is blended with copper and iron powder. After the coating sets, Tony works the piece with a wire brush and patina solutions to oxidize the metahis gives it the look and feel of worn bronze and rusty iron. A little sculpture wax completes the process.
