African Elephant - slip-cast ceramic with metal coating.

Each elephant is carefully slip-cast and handworked by Tony. After an initial firing, the tusks are finished with a crackle glaze. Then the piece is coated with a special non-fired gypsum-polymer-acrylic mixture that is blended with copper and iron powder. After the coating sets, Tony works the piece with a wire brush and cold patina solutions to oxidize the metal, this gives it the look and feel of worn bronze and rusty iron. A little sculpture wax completes the process.
