Iron Top House
Iron Top House - glazed ceramic
Height - approx. 11"
This piece is one of a new series of tiny houses, or Small Structures I've been exploring. Though each small structure begins from a similar starting point, they are each uniquely inspired, one of a kind works.
Iron Top House is a weathered, steadfast dwelling crowned by a deeply oxidized roof. This ceramic sculpture balances the heaviness of iron with the soul of a sanctuary, evoking survival and enduring strength
The roof is removable and theres just enough room inside to place a small light or a couple air plants.
Pissarro House
Pissarro House draws its spirit from my admiration for Impressionist master Camille Pissarro, directly inspired by his painting "The Red House," a long-standing favorite of mine at The Portland Art Museum.
The Primordial House
The Primordial House is constructed of a mosaic of primal, small-scale textures and shapes, creating a shelter that feels unearthed rather than created
Red Top House
As one of the initial design explorations, the Red Top House featured a base finished in a dirty white dry crackle glaze, crowned with a signature matte, dusty red roof.
The Relic House
The 'Relic House' design is informed by an earlier piece titled 'Relic' from my 'Whale in the Room' series, which explored the intersection of organic decay and industrial structure in the form of an Orca.
Brick House
Brick House is a sturdy, stocky, '‘ain’t-comin’-down-any-time soon” house. It’s topped with a roof of blue made from sumthin’ or ‘nuther, and it sports a stovepipe thingamajig.
The Cloud House
I originally named this piece 'Cloud House' just to have something to call it, but the name stuck! After several firings and glaze combo tweaks, I finally hit on this perfect, accidental combination. It’s got that moody, misty, rusty vibe that I absolutely love.
Ramshackle House
Ramshackle House is a study in decay and endurance, modeled after a rickety, seasoned dwelling I pass daily on my way to the studio. I like to think of it as a study in decay and endurance!
The Shifting House
On one hand, The Shifting Houseis a study in impermanence, literally capturing a structure in the midst of transformation. It is also a symbolic representation of transition and the ongoing nature of change.
The Spiral House
The Rivening House’s dreamlike, unsettling design is an architectural echo of my piece "Rivening." Part of the "Whale in the Room" series, it used the orca's form to navigate the unsettling space between separation and disappearance.
The Walking House
The Walking House is a biomorphic, architectural hybrid. It combines the familiarity of home with the unsettled, kinetic energy of a living creature. Maybe it could be called “domestic surrealism”. Does it evoke nostalgia… displacement…or maybe its just freaky!
The Whimsy House
The Whimsy House' is a study in architectural freedom—a curious structure defined by instinctive shapes, textures, and colors. It is a structure built on curiosity and the beauty of freeform exploration. I like to think it captures the joy of letting go.
Van Gogh House (Starry Night)
Van Gogh was an enigmatic and tragic genius. His work is mesmerizing and drips with emotion. Van Gogh House was intimidating and fun for me to create! I wasn’t sure how I should approach emulating his masterpiece…didn’t know how to start till I just started carving on the clay! If nothing else, I hope the viewer can sense my admiration for the original “Starry Night”.
